Challenge
For years, Arm & Hammer faced a recurring problem: consumers did not know when it was time to replace the baking soda they used to freshen their refrigerators. Consequently, many consumers waited much too long to purchase a replacement product.
Arm & Hammer developed a true out of the box solution with its new FridgeFresh™ Refrigerator Air Filter. This innovative device features a unique flow through design that exposes two times the baking soda versus the regular 1-lb. box.
They sought an innovative way to communicate to consumers that this product will last three months in the refrigerator and six months in the freezer.
Solution
Using its in house Research & Development resources, WS Packaging Group developed a unique "replacement indicator" label that uses the chemical reaction between two microencapsulated proprietary materials to signal when it's time to replace the filter. Consumers simply remove an activation strip when they place the filter in their refrigerator or freezer.
Despite the challenge of engineering a multiple-ply construction that had never been done before, WS Packaging Group created a dynamic, innovative label and brought it to market in less than two months. The final label was highly functional, easy to use, and physically part of the product casing so as not to interfere with the functionality of the air filter device.
Result
An innovative solution that eliminates consumer guesswork and prompts timely repurchase of the product.
